I've been getting phenomenal feedback from all my taste testers, fans & customers throughout the last few months (thank you, merci, danke, grazie!!!).  The comments that I'm most proud of can be found on Raving Reviews, but the ones that have been most constructive are those that provide commentary on the packaging.

Any successful business starts with a good product.  I think that's a generally accepted truth of the world and I feel confident that Marlo's Bakeshop will thrive because, well, my grandma made a damn good cookie.  But unfortunately there's a bit more that goes into enduring, global-cookie-domination type success.  Actually, I'm learning there's a lot more:

  • Good Packaging
  • PR
  • Marketing
  • $$$$
  • Great Packaging
  • Advertising
  • $$$$
  • Logistics
  • DID I MENTION PHENOMENAL PACKAGING!? (and $$$$?)

There's so much more but I'm tired of thinking about it. And, you're smart, so I think you get it. It's not all about the product. Yes, a good product is what makes people buy a second time.  But a lot of it is image.

It's the ethos that your product, its package, your logo etc. evokes.  It's crucial that it's compelling & makes a consumer want to grab you right off the shelf and take you home....to eat all in one sitting.

So that's what I'm working on right now. Because, sadly, Marlo's can't live in cute little cellophane bags forever.  They need a little more va-voom, maybe with a splash or bowchickawowow and a top coat of hubbabubba (for structure, of course).

Coming to my rescue in this endeavor is a wonderful packaging designer who has years of experience doing both corporate work & helping people like lil' ole me take their brand and image from 'Oh.' to "Oooooo la la!'.  And I'm really excited to be working with him.

This process is not quick, but it's fundamental in building my brand and the image that I want Marlo's Bakeshop to put forth in the world (that of a luxe, delicious & swoon worthy product that makes a perfect gift and/or picnic companion).

So stay tuned for updates.  When all is said and done, Marlos will be that much closer to being in a store near you!
