5 Creative Milkshake Add-In Ideas You'll Love

Milkshakes lend themselves to mad scientist experimentation, and we’ve seen some cool milkshake ideas recently that go far beyond the classic chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors. To inspire you to create your own fun milkshake recipes, we’re sharing five unusual and flavorful add-in ideas.

Graham Crackers and Toasted Marshmallows

We love s’mores at Marlo’s Bakeshop—we’ve even shared a s’mores recipe using our soft-baked biscotti—so obviously we think adding that classic campsite treat to your treat is an excellent and creative milkshake idea. For the perfect balance of flavors, make a chocolate shake and top it with crumbled graham crackers and toasted marshmallows. If you don’t have an open campfire to roast your marshmallows over, you can always toast them in the oven. Set your oven to broil, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, and place your marshmallows on top. Keep an eye on the marshmallows once you stick them in the oven: they shouldn’t need more than about 90 seconds.

Maple Syrup and Walnuts

Maple syrup isn’t just for pancakes. Try blending real maple syrup with vanilla ice cream, and then top your concoction with finely diced, toasted walnuts. For a fruity variation on this rich but cool milkshake idea, try sautéing peaches with brown sugar, then blend them into your maple-nut milkshake.

Salted Pretzels and Nutella

Who doesn’t love a good sweet and salty pairing? Blend a generous scoop of Nutella hazelnut spread to vanilla or chocolate ice cream and top your shake with mini-salted pretzels. We know a lot of people also like adding hot fudge to make this fun milkshake recipe extra decadent. For another variation, skip the fudge and use chocolate-covered pretzels.

Amaretto, Almonds, and Coconut Cream

Treat yourself to a (slightly) boozy milkshake version of an Almond Joy candy bar. Start with a chocolate milkshake for your base, then mix in a bit of Amaretto and coconut cream. Top everything off with toasted almond slices and coconut flakes.

Soft-Baked Biscotti

We couldn’t end this blog post without recommending our own Soft-Baked Biscotti as a creative milkshake recipe add-in. Because our Soft-Baked Biscotti has a similar texture to a homemade cookie, it’s easy to break into pieces and mix into your milkshake. You can make things even easier on yourself by using our Cookie Bites, which come in the same flavors as our Soft-Baked Biscotti. Try mixing and matching biscotti and ice cream flavors to come up with more fun milkshake recipes of your own.
